About Porpoise Bay Regional Park

Located on the west shore of Okanagan Lake near the city of Vernon, British Columbia, Porpoise Bay Regional Park spans over 55 hectares (136 acres) of mixed forest, wetland, and lakeshore habitat. The park features a sheltered sandy beach that provides safe swimming, swimming docks, and picnic areas along the lake, ideal for families and casual visitors. Inland, visitors can explore several well-maintained walking and mountain biking trails through a natural mix of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and grassy meadows. The area's diverse ecology supports numerous bird species, amphibians, and small mammals, making it an attractive spot for wildlife observation. Historically, Porpoise Bay and surrounding lands were used by the Syilx (Okanagan) people, with ongoing cultural significance. Today, the park balances recreation with natural preservation, offering campgrounds, playgrounds, and access to water sports like kayaking and fishing. It serves as a recreational gateway to the Okanagan region's extensive network of parks and outdoor attractions. Porpoise Bay Regional Park's combination of accessibility, scenic lakefront, and quiet green space makes it a favored spot for weekend visitors, especially during the summer months.
